The Seattle Asian Art Museum at Volunteer Park is a treasure, as is the park itself. The museum has determined that the facility is in need of upgrade, renovation and expansion. With a majority of private funding, the museum will renovate, including important infrastructure issues, ADA access, exhibit space and more. The added space will permit and support inclusion of South Asia art, as the museum presently focuses on East Asia.
The noted architectural firm, LMN, who designed among other buildings Benaroya Hall, McCaw Hall, the new UW Light rail station and many more nationally and globally, has been retained as designer, along with many other companies including landscape designers.
The visible expansion will be on the east side of the museum, and include an addition that takes about a quarter of a percent (1/400th) of the park.
The museum has detailed questions and details on the proposal here:
The public good is well served by this project, enhancing the park itself, as well as the museum.
