Bring Back Pratt Show
5 mar 2015
Pratt administrators held an open forum on February 24th to answer questions regarding the changes to the Pratt Show. Provost Peter Barna, Vice President for Student Affairs Helen Matusow-Ayers, Acting Dean of Design Anita Cooney, and Director of Career and Professional Development Rhonda Schaller responded to student concerns. Pratt’s Student Government President Schuyler Klein moderated the event. A video of the forum can be found on youtube at the following address:

Administrators at the forum told those present that the change in this annual show was due to budget restrictions discovered in December 2014. Decreasing enrollment and increasing rent for the Manhattan Center (the former Pratt Show venue) led to relocation of this show to Pratt’s Brooklyn campus.
At this time, Pratt Institute will be promoting smaller departmental shows both on and off campus. The annual Design Show will be held in the Athletic Resource Center (ARC) on Pratt’s Brooklyn campus. This interdisciplinary show will ideally feature work from graduating students in Industrial Design, Communications Design, Graduate Communications Design, Interior Design, and Jewelry Design. The Pratt administration has yet to apologize for its lack of clear communication and produce detailed plans for the ARC Design Show.
The changes to this year’s Design Show has caught the attention of several reporters. Their articles about the situation can be read via the following links:
