A HUMBLE CALL TO PHARMACY & POISON BOARD TO RECOGNIZE AND LICENSE CERTIFICATE HOLDERS.

A HUMBLE CALL TO PHARMACY & POISON BOARD TO RECOGNIZE AND LICENSE CERTIFICATE HOLDERS.

The Issue

  • CERTIFICATE HOLDERS BE SHOULD RECOGNIZED,

A pharmacy technician is a health care provider who performs pharmacy-related functions, generally working under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Pharmacy technicians work in a variety of locations (usually in community, retail, and hospital pharmacies), but can also work for long-term care facilities, pharmaceutical manufacturers, third-party insurance companies, computer software companies, or in government or teaching. Job duties include dispensing prescription drugs and other medical devices to patients and instructing on their use. They may also perform administrative duties in pharmaceutical practice, such as reviewing prescription requests with doctor's offices and insurance companies to ensure correct medications are provided and payment is received.

It is a FACT, that CERTIFICATE COURSE was offered in many government accredited institutions & recognized colleges, Nairobi technical, kabete, technical university by then Kenya polytechnic, Mt. Kenya University by then Thika technical of business studies,Tracom college, Rift Valley Technical,Menengai Medical and training college etc. In fact the same pharmacists started this so as to have pharmacy assistants in there premises, they argued that it is good to have somebody knowledgeable of drugs, absorption, metabolism, excretion, drug interaction, etc other than employing fresh form 4 leavers. I can remember some lecturers like Dr Owino, Dr Kirui, late Dr kimuhu, Dr Mbaria, If i am not wrong Dr Mirichu, among others were in board making this certificate course a success. As a matter of a fact certificate course in technical colleges started earlier than the diploma in pharmacy, such that as the diploma graduates started doing there internship in community pharmacies the people they met were CERTIFICATE HOLDER'S, I stand to be collected if am wrong. I mean certificate holders are still there, you assume them or not, The pharmacists and renowned professors trained them, With full knowledge of PPB KENYA office they know & acknowledged that they're aware of certificate in pharmacy in the medical field but we're requesting Pharmacy & poison board to award the certificate holders with health codes like their counter's pharmacists & pharmaceutical technologists; We are fully cognizant of it's goodwill and good intentions to make sure that all Kenyans have easier access to QUALITY & COST EFFECTIVE medications.majority of Pharmacy Technicians feel they're key partners towards achieving the above and therefore would wish to draw PPB Kenya attention to our petition to recognize us who did our certificate in pharmacy between 1999-2006 before it was scrapped; And with devolution we are urging PPB regional drug inspectors to stop harassing our members who are qualified certificate in pharmacy holder's.

There is no difference between Diploma in pharmacy and Certificate in pharmacy syllabi on what a certificate or a diploma in pharmacy goes through before qualifying to practice. A spot check on pharmacy and pharmaceuticals services has found other cadres culpable for professional negligence and in no mint condition has a certificate in pharmacy personnel committed such a mistake despite being condemned through academic censorship

In light with of the above, we Pharmacy Technicians, we call upon the PPB Kenya to recognize & license us and not to delegate authority to any party.

       - Be firm on it's authority against quacks so as to maintain the quality of medication offered to Kenyans.-

      - For PPB to succeed in up rooting quacks in every corner, all stakeholders must work together. Every level to fully play its role. Pharmacy technicians should be acknowledged, licensed and given health codes to weed out quack's!

        - Certificate in pharmacy holder cannot be equated to a quack. Having undergone a tumultuous academic journey in pharmacology and dispensing and advising then be reduced into a form four guy is not only a humiliation but a disgrace to educational system in Kenya. We stand for a proper stratification based on one's academic achievement. PPB must RECOGNIZE certificate in pharmacy. After all there was no FORMAL publication on deregistration of certificate in pharmacy holders

        - CERTIFICATE HOLDER'S are well trained in pharmacy practice. Recognizing them will get rid of all the quacks including Bankers, Teachers,Form four leavers, Relatives, Wives, sweepers dispensing in our local and high end community pharmacies & dispensaries!
