Postpone Termination of TRS for Tabernacle Township

The Issue

I’m deeply concerned about the recent changes to Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in Tabernacle Township, NJ. On August 11, 2025, the Township Committee passed a resolution to terminate the 72-year-old Tabernacle Rescue Squad (TRS) contract, effective November 9, 2025—just 53 days from today, September 17, 2025—shifting to a shared services model with Lumberton and Southampton. This proposed plan funds two ambulances but may staff only one full-time, 24/7, potentially risking inadequate coverage in our 40+ square mile rural area.

State law (N.J.A.C. 8:40) mandates continuous EMS coverage, yet this could increase response times beyond the 15-minute rural standard—endangering lives where 1/3 of recent calls relied on mutual aid. Over 200 residents voiced this at the September 8 meeting, and despite a September 15 special meeting with ongoing talks, no action has paused the November 9 end date.

We, the public, have been united in voicing our strong support for TRS to be given a fair shot at a new contract—even a paid one. With 70 years of dedicated volunteering, TRS has built an invaluable understanding of our land, from backroads to trails, passed down through generations. This long-term knowledge is irreplaceable and critical for our safety. Losing TRS would erase decades of expertise no new service can quickly replicate. We believe this warrants immediate reconsideration to protect the well-being of our community.

Join Us. Sign this petition to demand that the Township Committee immediately postpone or stop the November 9, 2025, TRS termination and work with them to preserve this vital asset. Attend the next meeting (September 22, 2025, 7 PM, Firehouse, 76 Hawkin Road). Together, we can save TRS and protect Tabernacle!
