Hello,
The days may have cooled off but our effort to postpone the development of a Dollar General store is heating up this week. The Township Board is meeting for their regular meeting this Tuesday Oct 10 at 6 pm. The agenda and meeting packet can be found here. This Thursday, Oct 12 at 10 am is also the Land Division meeting. We believe this will be the meeting that would provide the final approval needed for Dollar General to move forward.
We have asked for a moratorium on this decision until EGLE can confirm that the nearly 80 years of commercial paint and welding on the land adjacent to the proposed Dollar General site hasn’t created soil and groundwater contamination, which could be unearthed by the proposed development.
Please come to the meeting to share your support of the moratorium or send your thoughts ahead of the meeting to Rhonda, the Township Clerk, at Clerk@LongLakeTownship.com.
Also, public comment on the master plan draft is open and there are significant changes proposed. There are proposed changes in commercial zoning that could allow the spread of chain stores as “use by right” which is why we are where we are now with the proposed development of Dollar General. This is your opportunity to define what you want Long Lake Township to be. View the draft here and share your comments with Rhonda, Township Clerk, at Clerk@LongLakeTownship.com.
Thank you to everyone who joined us last week to review the master plan collaboratively. We are scheduling another input session and will share details shortly.
Have a great week and remember – it’s more powerful to speak up than to silently resent. Now is the time to say something.
