Like these mushrooms I recently found growing in Long Lake Township, this movement has grown into something truly impressive because you took action!
First, we are closing this petition because we have more specifically defined what we are asking of the Township. We are now seeking a moratorium on the land division approval on the property until an environmental review takes place on the property to confirm that the nearly 80 years of commercial paint and welding on the site hasn’t created soil and groundwater contamination, which could be unearthed by the proposed development.
The Friends for the Protection of Long Lake have connected with EGLE to seek a better understanding of what this would entail and who we may need to work with ensure an adequate evaluation is done.
Our plan is to ask for this moratorium at the Planning Commission meeting happening TOMORROW, Tuesday 9/26 at 6 pm. Share your voice in support of this by attending the meeting or emailing your thoughts to the Rhonda, the Township Clerk at Clerk@LongLakeTownship.com.
This week we also invite you to meet with the Friends for the Protection of Long Lake at Boone’s Long Lake Inn on Thursday, 9/28, from 5:30-7:30 pm. Enjoy dinner out (optional), meet your neighbors, and review the master plan draft. Our goal is to strengthen the language to preserve the character of our community. Stop in when convenient for you – we would love to meet you!
Also, SAVE THE DATE for these future public input opportunities. Let’s not be quiet about this!
· Tues., Oct. 10: Township Board Regular Meeting, 6 pm, Township Offices.
· Thurs., Oct. 12: Land Division meeting, 10 am, Township Offices.
