Prior to Wednesday, July 13 – Councilor, and mayoral candidate, Stephen Andrew has created a short survey regarding the MMI; you can express your opinion regarding the timing of having a vote during summer months as well as other items.

Prior to Wednesday, July 13 – Email your comments directly to mayorandcouncil@victoria.ca

Summary

The MMI would involve the rezoning of all residential lots, city-wide, doubling the density allowed on every lot. Residents will no longer be permitted to comment on any new multiplexes that might be proposed. City staff will be able to approve without public consultation.

The multiplex housing will be bigger, taller, wider and closer together, but the plan does not include workable strategies to manage:

  • parking issues resulting from the increased density and the minimal requirement for onsite parking, and
  • the loss of affordable housing stock in Victoria resulting from demolitions to build new, unaffordable strata housing – all missing middle units will be priced based on “what the market can bear."
