It's been nearly a year since this petition was started, and it started over the course of a few months to gain a lot of attention. We were featured in the local herald, and posted to numerous other sites.

It disheartens us that the commission has shown no change in their ideology, and in an attempt to further save money for toys and fat paychecks. 1% of an annual budget, is worth the money it could save in court, and worth the accountability towards our officers. We will not rest until all on-duty police officers in Portsmouth are outfitted with cameras. Until then, many citizens will fear the police, and have no evidence or recourse to fight against an officers word. 

The word of a single acting officer is not enough, we have seen the corruption present in Portsmouth, as well as other communities. We have to find out what goes on behind the scenes, but only occasionally we ever do. It took reporters nearly a year to hire a lawyer and private investigators just to find out about bribery from the police commission. What exactly is going on behind those closed doors and cam-less pull overs? We will only find out with greater accountability, and cameras.
