The Calendar Committee has recommended that PPS start after Labor Day. This recommendation is based on discussions with teachers, parents and data presented to the superintendent. Committee recommendations indicate that teachers and parents prefer a post Labor Day start and all but 2 other local districts have committed to a post Labor Day start.

Despite this, Carole Smith is recommending that the Board Vote to start before Labor Day in 2016/17 in Resolution 5200. 

RESOLUTION
In accordance with OAR 581-022-1620, the Board of Education of School District No. 1J, Multnomah County, Oregon, agrees to the reduction of instructional time for students by up to 30 hours in order to conduct teacher professional development.
The Board of Education adopts the 2016-17 school year calendar as recommended.
