Defend the beautiful Portland Bight Protected Area!

Defend the beautiful Portland Bight Protected Area!
The Issue
The Portland Bight Protected Area is a fragile mangrove and coral-reef zone in which species like Jamaican Iguanas (Cyclura collei) find sanctuary.
In fact, countless passionate biologists and volunteers, have painstakingly worked to snatch this critically endangered species back from the brink of extinction.
Now the Jamaican government intends to sell this natural refuge to a Chinese company blacklisted by the World Bank under its "Fraud and Corruption Sanctioning Policy"!
The China Harbour Engineering Co.will clear-cut the mangroves and dredge the surrounding coral reefs - just to build a coal-fired power plant to service a megafreighter seaport and industrial park.
The iguanas, and all the loving work of countless individual heroes will be wiped off the face of the Earth. The coral reefs, and all the creatures depending on the abundance there will be destroyed.
Jamaica depends heavily on tourism to drive its economy. Tourists expect to find pristine beaches and remarkable species there - not the stink of coal-fired heavy industry, or filthy, fuel-stained coastlines.
The Jamaican government must be made to understand the consequence for selling out to a black-listed Chinese company will mean the loss of billions of dollars in tourist revenues, and the loss of up to a quarter of the jobs!
Raising our voices together to stop this thoughless, short-sighted and irresponsible plan can sway the Prime Minister.
Tell Ms. Simpson-Miller there are more ethical, forward-thinking plans to bring revenues into Jamaica. Ask her to protect the Portland Bight Protected Area - Jamaica's priceless pearl - from becoming a coal-fired hell!
