Rename Portage Central's McCamley Field in Honor of Coach Bob Knight

Rename Portage Central's McCamley Field in Honor of Coach Bob Knight
The Issue
For those that share the privilege of having had Coach Knight be a part of their life, I respectfully ask that you help us in our efforts to get Portage Central High School’s Football Field renamed in his honor. Coach Knight was recently diagnosed with an advanced stage of brain cancer, yet doctors remained optimistic about his treatment options. Sadly, the day before he was to begin his treatment, he suffered a hemorrhage, and his health took a rapid turn for the worse. Coach is now resting peacefully in his home surrounded by family and loved ones, and under the care of Hospice. As he approaches the end of the game, it is my hope that we can provide him with this last gesture of gratitude for all that he has done for us.
If you were fortunate enough to have Coach Knight as a teacher, a coach, or just a friend, you know the impact that he has had on this community. Simply mentioning the name Bob Knight brings about countless stories of the influence he has had on more than five decades off students and athletes. The life lessons taught, and the values instilled have helped mold thousands of people into becoming better sons, daughters, husbands, mothers, leaders, and human beings!
While the saying of you can never argue with Coach Knight still rings true, I know his response to this request would be to turn it down. His humility would not have allowed for it so therefore I will ask for it. We will ask for it. Collectively we will honor Coach Knight and give him one last thank you for all that he has done for us throughout our lives. I ask for your support in helping us rename Portage Central’s McCamley Field after Coach Knight. Please support our efforts, and if so moved share with us some of the fond memories you have of Coach. Whether it’s him teaching you how to dance, early morning weightlifting classes, or setting you straight on important life decisions, these memories will show those that weren’t lucky enough to have him be a part of their life just how much he has meant to this community. We will present the names and commentary to the Portage Public School Board in an upcoming meeting where we will formally make this request.
Thank you for your support and make it a great day!
