Lift the Pit Bull ban in Poplar Bluff MO

Lift the Pit Bull ban in Poplar Bluff MO

I own a 2.5 year old Non Pit Bull dog. But because she looks like a pit bull or a mix of a pit bull I am being forced to get rid of our very sweet and loving dog Skye. She is an emotional support dog for my son who has serious anxiety issues. She’s not aggressive what so ever. I have lots of people in my apartments who love her and would tell you she’s a sweet heart and wouldn’t hurt a soul. I have 2 grand children 6 years old and almost 2 years old who play with her all the time and can even feed her out of their had with out any concern of her biting them or being mean. Skye is a very Unique dog and is very loving and caring. She thinks she’s human at times. She sleeps under the covers and lays her head on a pillow just like us. She is very helpful with my sons anxiety and has helped him cope with day to day things or gives him the strength to do things he wouldn’t before or go places he never would before. She lets him know it’s ok and that he will be fine. She’s an amazing dog in all honesty. I couldn’t imagine our family without her. I was never informed of this very discriminatory ordinance here in poplar bluff and just like our Missouri House of Reps I am going to fight to have this ordinance lifted so this doesn’t happen to another family. I understand that people are scared of dogs and I also understand it’s not the breed that causes this problem but the owner. This city ordinance is just as discriminating as if there was one that states only white people can live here cause black people do drugs. Or white people are ban cause they are more app to break the law. You can’t discriminate based on race and it should be the same for animals not to be discriminated against cause of breed. It’s been 11 years now since this discrimination started and I think it’s time to have it reevaluated and lifted. Please and thank you! Heather Atkins
