SUPPORT BISHOP DAVID ZUBIK
The Issue
Those signing this petition express their support of Bishop David Zubik, Bishop of Pittsburgh. We believe no one is more committed than Bishop Zubik to leading the Church of Pittsburgh through this crisis to healing. His detractors are many. He needs God’s help and our support to do this. If you agree, please sign the petition below and help us spread the word. This is a grassroots effort. No one at the Diocese of Pittsburgh initiated this petition.
This petition will be sent to Pope Francis as an expression of our support for Bishop Zubik.
- We acknowledge the horror of the PA Grand Jury Report.
- We also acknowledge the many efforts put forth by Bishop Zubik to put a stop to the sexual abuse of children.
- We acknowledge the heartbreaking damage done to people because of the abuse they suffered.
- We also acknowledge Bishop Zubik's tireless and sincere efforts since the release of the Grand Jury Report to meet with victims, encourage victims to come forward, answer hard questions, communicate with the faithful in a frank and informative letter, hold press conferences and participate in both local and national media interviews, among other efforts.
- We acknowledge that serious mistakes were made in the past regarding the handling of abuse allegations both in the church and in most other societal institutions of the time.
- We also acknowledge that many in church authority, including Bishop Zubik, have learned from those mistakes and have made a genuine effort to correct them by enacting strict protocols to protect children, which, statistics show, have been very successful.
- And finally, we acknowledge that for the Church of Pittsburgh to move forward and healing to begin, we must foster forgiveness for the past, vigilance for the future and an end to the hateful and devisive rhetoric, being promoted by some, which only further weakens us, the Church.
