Call for a Local Referendum on Poole Councils combined unitary authority plan.

The Issue

At the last Full Council meeting (17/11/2015) certain members of Poole Council put forward a motion for The creation of a Unitary Authority covering the present boundaries of the four authorities Poole, Bournemouth, Christchurch, and East Dorset Councils. This was done without any public consultation nor ever going through a scrutiny committee. I feel that this to be a travesty on democracy and as this is going to directly affect the governance of Poole I feel this should be put to the people of Poole in the form of a Local Referendum.

Councillors Peter Adams, Janet Walton, May Haines, Sean Gabriel, Ron Parker, Xena Dion, Ian Potter, Mike White, Mike Wilkins, Mohan Iyengar, Louise Russell, Russell Trent, John Challinor, Lindsay Wilson, Karen Rampton went way beyond their remit by pushing this motion forward without first consulting the very people they were elected to represent and each and everyone of them agreed to work in the best interests of those people.

Give the people who elected you to office a voice in the future of Poole, give them a Local Referendum.

Under the Localism Act the people can call for a local referendum by petitioning council with signatures from at least 5% of the electorate. Poole as an electorate of 72,557 so this petition needs at least 3629 signatures. If you want to have your say please ensure you get as many people as possible to sign it.
