Polytron Corporation: Please continue to revolutionize the gaming industry.
The Issue
As of last night, Phil Fish, crowning developer at Polytron has ceased the creation of Fez II, the sequel to the incredible indie hit that took Xbox Live (and later PC) by storm in April 2012. After negative bombardment by twitter and media, Phil has officially pulled the plug on development and has resigned from the gaming industry. Phil Fish's reactions have never been perfect, but most of his comments have been overly exaggerated and blown out of proportion.
Negativity around the internet knows no bounds; it far exceeds any sense of positive reflection and as a result, has discouraged a great developer. Let's stand up as a community to show Polytron the support it deserves. Fez supporters, indie supporters, and even gaming industry enthusiasts should all support, knowing well that Polytron has raised the bar when it comes to the platforming experience.
Fez is an innovative platforming puzzle game that presents an expansive three-dimensional world in a two-dimensional game. The player rotates their character (known as Gomez) to solve various levels of puzzles that continue to utilize unique methods of approach. Fez was originally announced in July 2007 and was released to the X-box Live marketplace on April 13th, 2012. The game instantly became a hit and a fan-favorite of many gamers, earning praise from media and gamers alike. The game has sold over 200,000 units over the Xbox Live service and has recieve a slew of awards for it's incredible success. Fez continues to sell on both Steam and Xbox Live services, but the sequel has now been cancelled.
Even those who have been negative up until this point, should support in light of this new development. Even if you do not agree with the opinions of those behind the title, supporting this release means the continuation of a great IP and a strong root for indie developers in the gaming industry.
Please continue to spread the word and show Phil Fish that positivity does exist.
