Poly Drive School: Safe Routes to School

The Issue

Help us protect our families, children and neighbors traveling to and from Poly Drive School each day. Every child deserves a safe pathway to get to and from School.

On the morning of Tuesday, October 4th, 2022, Benjamin Jablonski, a 3rd grade student at Poly Drive Elementary, was struck by a car while riding his bike to school. The accident happened on the corner of Brentwood Lane and Lyman Avenue, less than 500 feet from the SW corner entrance to Poly Drive Elementary. Neighbors and other Poly Drive students found him 50 feet from where he was struck.

Ben was taken by ambulance to the Billings Clinic Emergency Room where he was treated for a severe concussion and road rash from the accident. The doctors later said it was a miracle he didn't sustain more serious long-term injuries. Thankfully, he was wearing his helmet, which likely saved his life. He is home now with his family recovering.

Help us petition the City of Billings to add:

Stop Signs: We are asking the City of Billings to install stop signs on all intersections on Lyman Avenue from the eastern terminus of Nina Clare to the western terminus of Elizabeth Street (4 intersections total). The City of Billings recently installed stop signs and a bike corridor on Lyman Avenue, east of Poly Drive School.

Unmanned Crosswalk Station: Similar to the newer crosswalk station installed on Lake Elmo, we are asking the City of Billings to install an unmanned crosswalk station on the corner of Lyman Avenue and Nina Clare Road, with street stripes, appropriate signage and flashing lights. This intersection is 150 feet from the SW entrance to Poly Drive School and is the most heavily trafficked each morning and afternoon.
