Superintendent Jacqueline M Byrd was appointed by the Polk County Public School Board to oversee and improve Polk County schools. The events of January 10th, 2020 proves she doesn’t care for the teachers or the students she is responsible for. She has partnered with Matthew Mears, general counsel of the Florida Department of Education to target Polk County teachers who have prearranged a personal day, granted to them by their contract with the Polk County School System, to attend the rally to improve funding for education in the state of Florida. She is threatening to terminate teachers for taking time off to go to the rally. She was aware of this event for months and made no plans. This shows (1) a lack of leadership and planning abilities suited for her position, (2) a lack of concern for the largest school county in the state which is also one of the lowest funded counties, and (3) shows she has no interest in the well being of teachers or students. I hereby call on the members of the Polk County School Board to issue a vote of no confidence in her leadership and to terminate her appointment immediately.
