Final recycling processes in the US and Europe
The Issue
The recycling industry is interesting, around 50% of the household waste is separated domestically (the rest is incinerated and some landfilled) done by inflight sorting, an systems with a detection system air push system https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeaL4iizDVk and maybe some robots (or labour) before it, roughly 75% or more is sent to China for final processing: this includes sending them batches of the same waste https://www.google.com/search?q=batches+of+recycled+plastic&sxsrf=ACYBGNRMGimPoN57PAdmvz5OT5c9BTYaCQ:1570310041631&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjcxd_hhIblAhWszoUKHSAYAw4Q_AUIEigB&biw=1440&bih=756#imgrc=blhdTMay6q4eCM: then apparently they do the final recycling that turns those batches of waste into final materials that can be used again to produce new things.
This is alright, however having done some research it seems China is dumping a lot waste into the oceans, where do those huge plastic islands the size of nations come from? People don't throw that many things in the ocean to do they. It seems a lot comes from Chinese rivers https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2018/06/90-of-plastic-polluting-our-oceans-comes-from-just-10-rivers/ and merchant ships are even dumping it https://climatechangedispatch.com/study-china-cargo-ships-trash-ocean/ If we do the sorting domestically we can also do the final processing at the same place. China has controlled this industry of final processing for a long time, its time we final process sorted recycling in our own nations.
