Policy Change for the Elimination of Institutional Racial Discrimination in Canada
The Issue
March 20, 2022
Racial discrimination is morally reprehensible. Racism is a threat to good government, safe communities, economic growth and the health and wellbeing of all citizens. We call on all orders of government to immediately address systemic issues of discrimination and racial inequality.
We call on the Government of Canada to:
Simplify the process for refugees fleeing to Canada by waiving Visa requirements for everyone, regardless of the color of their skin
Immediately halt all deportations of Temporary Foreign Workers and Seasonal Workers, and introduce a special pathway to regularize their status towards permanent residency.
Fulfill the promise of residency to 40,000 Afghani refugees
Implement all 94 Calls to Action of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission
We call on the Government of Alberta to:
Provide Health Care services to all persons living in Alberta regardless of Immigration status
Provide equal access to the full range of social supports including education, housing, mental health and income support benefits.
We call on the City of Calgary to:
Fully fund and implement the recommendations of the White Goose Flying Report.
Fully fund and implement the Anti-Racist Strategy
Fully fund Equity initiatives
Implement the Access without Fear policy to reassure people with no immigration status that they can access police services without fear they may be reported and ultimately detained, or deported
