Petition updatePolice shooting death of Luke Gilbert: Call for an INDEPENDENT INQUIRY!

The way the Queensland Human Rights Act 2019 works is simple...it doesn’t !!!

While we are legally gagged from disclosing the specific discussions from our Queensland Human Rights Commission conciliation conference, we want to provide an important update to our supporters.

The conference was UNSUCCESSFUL !!!

At the last minute, the Queensland Police Service chose to have lead investigator Adam Spinks and family liaison officer who was in charge of the investigation Aaron Baxter attend. Despite a scheduled three-hour window, the process was entirely cut short and concluded in under two hours without any progress, any negotiation, or any movement toward a resolution.

From our perspective, there was an absolute absence of meaningful engagement or any true attempt to find middle ground.

Our core goals were simple….

  • Full disclosure of all evidence.
  • A genuinely independent review or investigation.
  • A public apology for how our family has been treated.

None of these outcomes were achieved. Make of that what you will.

This outcome is deeply disappointing, but it is not a surprise. The Queensland Human Rights Commission, now led by Commissioner Debbie Platz (a former QLD Police Assistant Commissioner) will formally process the final paperwork confirming the conference was unsuccessful. This paperwork provides us with the mandatory legal clearance we need to bypass local avenues and escalate Luke’s case directly to an international stage. We will update you as soon as that formal notice is in our hands.

Thank you to everyone who stands by us. The fight for Luke does not stop here. Onwards and upwards.

Kind Regards,

Darren and Nicola Gilbert
