RE-OPEN PENZANCE POLICE STATION

RE-OPEN PENZANCE POLICE STATION
The Issue
Penzance Police Station has been closed to the public since 2014. As many of us warned at the time, the closure undermined the community's connection with the police. Local people, who support the police, feel that the service has turned its back on us. We feel literally locked out from the building we help to pay for and find it increasingly hard to 'speak to a human'. Many people give up waiting when they call 101.
Before the May 2021 elections, Commissioner Alison Hernandez (who had left the station closed for five year) posed for a photo in front of it with a local Conservative candidate. The implication was that the station might be re-opened. Now we want to see action.
We are calling on her to re-open the station to the public, at the very least an open reception every weekday morning. Penzance has major challenges with antisocial behaviour, drug dealers and domestic violence. The station serves a wider population of 50,000 people living not just in town but in the surrounding Penwith villages. We all need to be able to meet the police when it's essential.
The reopening is supported by local councillors and parishes and a wide range of voluntary and community organisations.
Alison Hernandez: Please re-open Penzance Police Station Now!
