Pass the Women’s Reservation Bill - Pave the way for Planet 50-50 by 2030

The Issue

India is the largest democratic country in the world; but still we have only 14.39 percent of women representation in our Parliament. Even our neighboring country Pakistan has much more women representation in their Parliament. In a true democracy, women's representation should be equal, i.e. at least 50 percent.

The Women’s Reservation Bill has been pending for the last 10 years in the Parliament of India, which proposes to amend the Constitution of India for 33 percent representation to women in the Parliament and state assemblies.

Why the Women Reservation Bill? Research has shown that when women become members of law enacting bodies like Parliament and Assemblies, welfare of women and ordinary citizens will be ensured and corruption will be wiped out. The root cause of violence against women is lack of power, wealth and gender discrimination. I believe that in order to abolish violence against women they should come to power. This is possible only through reservation.

Crimes against women are increasing day by day. After the Delhi Nirbhaya case, the Central and State Governments allotted crores of money for the protection of women in India, without any positive result. The Hyderabad rape-murder case, the Unnao case and the Kathua rape case show that women in India are not safe; that those in power and wealth decide everything and others are exploited. Studies show that only gender equality and equity can solve the problem of violence against women. We have to achieve planet 50:50 by 2030 (UN Women 2017) equal position to women and men everywhere.

Now since the ruling alliance has a majority in both houses and with the  support of like minded parties, the Women Reservation Bill can be passed before the next general election. The next Parliament election is around the corner (in 2024). So please support me by signing this petition, before it is too late.

Your signature to this petition will ensure there is no more violence to our daughters, sisters, and  mothers. Thereby peace will prevail in our country, leading to  development, productivity and prosperity of our nation. We can also utilize a huge amount of money for development, which we are currently spending for the protection of women. Thereby the political parties who support the Women Reservation Bill will ensure more support and will come into power again.

Once again, I request you to sign and support this petition and pave the way for Planet 50:50.
