The prevent policy in UK schools is highly damaging to community relations. It's is Islamaphobic. It is damaging to teacher, pupils and parent relation of trust and confidence. Teachers are acting as government spies and taking school play ground talks of pupils to another level. Kids are spying on kids and teachers are interviewing under age children asking them questions about their faith beliefs and political alliances. This is an outrageous attack on civil liberties in the name of national security. I am a very proud British Muslim, all my life I have lived in U.K but never felt like an outsider until recently. My 10 year old son's primary school headteacher called me for a meeting. I found out that my child was taken in for one hour of questioning by his headteacher without an appropriate adult being at present because he was called a terrorist in playground by kids for wearing a snod during the winter. He responded saying I am a Muslim not a terrorist. The headteacher had questioned him about ISIS and Al Quida and Paris attacks as well as his views on western involvement in Middle Eastern problems. It took me 4 days to get the details of what question my child was asked by his headteacher. She had called me for an intimidating interview. My integrity as a British Muslim was attacked. I was treated as a suspect for radicalising my 10 year old child. My child and I were singled out even though my child was the one who was the victim. During the interrogation I felt offended and humiliated, which had profound affect on me. When I asked the head questions she was not able to answer any, she told me if i wanted to know more i must contact prevent policy so she referred me to a police officer in charge for my area. I had a meeting with the Prevent officer and presented the chilling questions which my 10 year old was asked. The officer was quite shocked at the type of questioning and said that they would not use this line of questioning for a child she confirmed that the headteacher had taken the policy out of context and acted on her own initiatives. You can imagine how I must have felt. The Head used her position and abused it in my eyes she had no authority to do what and how she conducted this matter. There has been numerous incident all over UK where Muslims are being targeted. This Policy is unfair and unworkable, the finding shows it is a complete failure. Children from nursery age to university are being spied on by their teachers. It is has a profound negative affect on British Muslim families, school teachers and civil rights organisation. As a Muslim British parent I believe that the prevent policy should be scrapped because it is dangerous and damaging to our society at large. It's unreasonable, Islamaphobic and unworkable. It is forcing many Muslims to pull their children out of school and homeschooling them instead which will further isolate them and prevent interaction and integration in society at large. I would like people to join this petition to demand Tresa May and the rest of the government to stop and scrap this counter productive policy in Schools.
