Stop the Fines for walking dogs off-lead on local sports pitches

The Issue

We support fines for people who do not pick up after their dog.

Since October 2020, Plymouth City Council has clamped down on people walking their dogs off-lead anywhere that sports are played. White lines have been drawn around all sports pitches on public land. These 16 fields where previously dogs could be exercised freely and their people could meet up, are now restricted to people who keep their dog on a lead.

This massive change impacts almost all dog owners across Plymouth. The de facto removal of public land from those who use it most is an abuse of power by our council. It is not reasonable and in no way aligns with the Westminster government guidelines on how to set up a Public Spaces Protection Order, which is the measure that the council is using to effect these changes.

We demand that our public fields be returned to the public and not set aside for the 1% of our population who play organised sports for a few hours a week during the football/rugby/cricket season.

Plymouth City Council is using systematic bullying and entrapment to clear the public land in favour of sports clubs. This is wholly unacceptable .

This petition demands Plymouth City Council:

stop using the PSPO to restrict the space that dog walkers can use

stop the bullying and entrapment used to enforce this odious order
