Mandate masks for students in the Plum Borough School District
The Issue
COVID-19 cases are continuing to surge across Allegheny County.
On Sunday August 15, Allegheny County moved into the high category of COVID transmission as defined by the CDC. See link here: https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#county-view
The CDC and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) have both recommended that all K-12 students, teachers and staff, regardless of their vaccination status, wear masks indoors at schools.
Despite these rising cases and recommendations, the Plum Borough School District has chosen to make masks “highly encouraged, but voluntary.”
There continues to be enough science that supports that masks work and are essential for a safe return to school.
It is also important to note that UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is seeing a rise in patients admitted with COVID-19.
We must continue to urge the Plum Borough School Board to do what is right and require masks for the 2021-2022 school year.
The next school board meeting is August 17, 2021. The plan is to present this to the school board.
Lets protect the students and staff of the Plum Borough School District
