Pledge to Protect Maine’s Bears
Maine is the ONLY state in the country that still allows the hounding, trapping, and baiting of bears -- three of the most unthinkably cruel ways to kill these creatures.
Bears either suffer for hours with their paws caught in traps before being shot at point blank range. Or they are chased to exhaustion by packs of dogs, often resulting in the bears being ripped apart or the dogs being mauled or killed. Or they’re lured to a pile of rotting meat, pizza, and donuts, and then shot while their head is buried in the pile of bait.
But we now have a chance to protect Maine's bears. The Humane Society of the United States is working with Mainers for Fair Bear Hunting to pass a ballot initiative that will finally establish long-overdue protections for Maine’s bear population.
Please sign the pledge today to show your support for protecting Maine’s beloved bears from cruel hounding, trapping, and baiting.
I pledge to protect Maine’s bears from cruel hounding, trapping, and baiting. I will stand with Mainers – and animal lovers across the country – in working to enact long-overdue protections for Maine’s beloved bears.
