Pledge to Boycott Koch Brother Products
Pledge to Boycott Koch Brother Products
The Issue
This is not a petition in the normal sense but rather a pledge to boycott. On June 28th, 2011 "The Rachel Maddow Show" provided the clearest proof that the Koch Brothers are undermining and selling out our democracy and the American middle class by actively courting some of our nation's Republican governors. The Koch Brothers net worth is very near $50 billion dollars and they own the second largest private company in the entire United States. They employ from 70 to 80,000 people with about 50000 of those jobs being in the US. As such they answer to no board of directors, no stock holders, and no investors of any sort. But they do answer to the American people. We the people are the only ones who can reclaim our country and we need not wait until the 2012 elections to start because by then it may be too late. It is not my intention to jeopardize, in any way, the jobs of those Americans in the employment of Koch Industries. However, there might be some degree of collateral damage but we must put the interest of millions of other Americans first. My goal is not to destroy the Koch brothers but only to send a message. With a 50 billion dollar bank roll I am sure they can weather any storm we create for them a very long time without affecting anyone's job. As another part of this same Rachel Maddox show points out, there is an active movement by Republicans to limit voting rights of Democratic voters so they may handily and underhandedly claim the next election for their own. They have crafted numerous schemes to assure their success and we can expect anything but a fair election. Koch Brothers are responsible for financing and launching the Tea Party. They are responsible for generating, sponsoring, and financing much of the heinous and obtuse Republican political agenda through their affiliation with the John Birch Society. One example is the attempt to roll back or do away with the minimum wage. As most of their agenda benefits primarily multinational and very large businesses, this is a clear attempt to bring small businessmen on board so they will side with the Republican agenda and increase their voter base. Theirs is a costly venture and may even be considered a risky one if it were not for the under-handed tactics they employ and the political and financial affiliations they enjoy. They have invested heavily in buying our Republican leadership and even our highest court in the land. But one thing they cannot buy and one thing they have not counted on is we the people. We can show them what Citizens United is all about. If politicians start to see the Koch Empire crumbling they may soon start back peddling in an attempt to resurrect their dying careers. But do not forget that the Koch brothers are heavily affiliated with John Birch so who knows how broad of a network we are dealing with and who knows who else we might have to add to the boycott . Because the Koch Brothers have diversified their financial portfolio it is difficult to hit them in an impactful and noticeable way but it is not impossible. I propose that everyone who takes this pledge to boycott Koch brother’s products carry with them a shopping list every time they go to any store to purchase any product or to any gas station to fill up. There are numerous Internet sites that attempt to list the many different Koch products. Some even provide a list of logos as the one I reference in my boycott link and it can be used to develop your own shopping list. Make copies of your list and give it to all your friends and relatives. If you see someone shopping at a store not carrying such a list offer to provide them with one. There are many sites on the Internet that provide this list (for now until conservative politicians are successful at destroying net neutrality) so it is rather easy to obtain should this petition be somehow removed from this site. In conjunction with this pledge, also pledge to register to vote and pledge to vote against any politician that appears to have any unfair affiliation with big business in general. Resist the rhetoric that the incredible things they propose are for our own good and for the economic good of the country. Most big business would like nothing better than to return to the Reagan years when the government started spoiling business by providing subsidies to kick start the economy. These were subsidies that many times paid for the majority of jobs they helped create. Most Wall Street investment banks would like nothing better than to return to the Bush years where government oversight was at a minimum and investment house overreach was at a maximum. As responsible citizens we cannot let this happen; please join our boycott starting today.
