The Issue

In our community of Irvington, NY, the lack of a sidewalk along Taxter Road is a pressing safety issue that affects the daily lives of residents. Families, children, and individuals should have the opportunity to safely walk to their local neighborhood playground, enjoy a leisurely stroll, or simply take their dogs for a walk without the constant worry and risk of encountering traffic. A professional study of Taxter Road found that the traffic was rated a Level F, indicating that Taxter Road has the highest congestion levels of stop and go traffic—particularly at certain times of day.  This is just one of many reasons why pedestrians on Taxter are in extreme danger.  Currently, the absence of a sidewalk forces pedestrians onto the road, creating a hazardous environment for everyone.  It's unsettling that people feel compelled to drive (sometimes only a few blocks) due to safety concerns. Statistically, pedestrian safety is significantly improved when sidewalks are present.  According to the Federal Highway Administration, sidewalks reduce pedestrian collisions with motor vehicles by up to 88%.  Implementing a sidewalk on Taxter Road is a realistic measure that can dramatically decrease accidents and increase safety for all pedestrians in our area. The addition of a sidewalk will also strengthen our community by connecting neighbors in a sustainable, environmentally friendly way.

Join us in advocating for a safer, more connected neighborhood. By signing this petition, you are supporting a sidewalk that aims to improve public safety and enhance the quality of life for all Irvington residents. We are not asking for any money at this time. Please just sign to show your support. Thank you!
