A handful of notes were left on a few car window screens on the evening of Friday 22nd April in the Wickes car park, Ash Tree road, Stirchley. The note was a folded piece of paper only put on the cars parked nearest the road by the row of trees. The note states the below:

Dear Resident,From -Wickes Home Improvements.
We have allowed residents to park in the carpark over the years. As from next week
(25/4/2022) we will unfortunately require the spaces to be vacant. We will have a carpark
management agency in place called G24. This will be inplace to allow customers to park (90
minutes maximum in store hours) as we see an uplift in sales due to the store being refitted
and a reduction in spaces due to the delivery entrance extending.
I hope you understand and support the request.
Kind Regards,
Management @Wickes Stirchley.

This is the only correspondence that the residents of Ash Tree road/ Dorset Cottages have had informing us of the change. My car was not parked in the car park on this occasion but I had seen notes left on some vehicles as well as having spoken to a Neighbour who lives at Dorset Cottages so I read one of the notes left on a neighbour's car. I sometimes have to park my car in the Wickes car park due to the number of vehicles that residence have and the single side of the road to park them on.

My main concerns are the way in which Wickes have decided to informly let residences know. It is almost like they are trying to set up quickly and quietly to instantly fine residents who are not aware of the change or have even been informed from Monday 25th April as if you have not been left a note on a window screen,or had been away as it is the end of the Easter holidays, you would not be aware.

Secondly, I have been a home owner on Ash Tree road for almost 10 years now and as much as appreciate the ease of being able to park in the Wickes car park after work, the general traffic and other issues such as the alarms of Wickes going off during the dead of night, the regular occurrence during the week of having a number of large delivery lorries parked on the double yellow lines opposite my house waiting to drop off deliveries. This regularly leads to blocked roads and a build up of traffic throughout the day which has caused much frustration over the years.

The car park of Wickes is never full, even on Bank Holiday weekends which are known for people to want to make home improvements and DIY. It has never been an issue and usually during an evening, there are around 15-20 cars parked in the car park, sometimes less which does not impact on the company at all.

The impact of Wickes stopping people from parking in the car park will also have a huge impact on local independent restaurants and bars which Stirchley is becoming well known for. If visitors to Stirchley cannot park in the Wickes car park, this will impact on the footfall of the high street too. Are the local business aware of this change too?

Finally, a local resident informed me that they believed that there was a clause in place to allow residents to park in the car park as it has previously been raised as an issue? I am not sure how true this is but thought it was worth mentioning.
