THE THEMES TODAY ARE CAUTION AND DANGER.
By now you know that I WEAR MY HEART ON MY SLEEVE. I have been courageously trying to RESCUE the mentally ill for many months. It has been BLOOD, SWEAT, AND TEARS trying to convince the Progressive Conservative government to amend the restrictive Community Treatment Order. My philosophy in life is, “WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, THE TOUGH GET GOING.”

Our son had A BRUSH WITH DEATH when he was on the streets homeless in Toronto. Our family WEATHERED THE STORM as best we could under the circumstances. Thankfully, Minister of Health and Wellness, Mark McLane, authorized a medical transfer home to P.E.I. where Andrew is SAFE in hospital.

Andrew did not realize that he was PLAYING WITH FIRE living this lifestyle as he has a serious mental illness. This was a HAZARDOUS situation which could have resulted in death or serious injury.

TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, a CTO AMENDMENT is WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD! Many more Islanders will qualify and it will ensure that they stay on their medications, keeping them well in the community. Anosognosia is a symptom of the mental illness. It prohibits them from understanding they are ill and causes them to make very bad decisions.

In spite of this knowledge, the P.E.I. government legislated the most restrictive Community Treatment Order in Canada. IT’S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE to comprehend that a CTO saves lives. It also eliminates many revolving-door visits to the hospital.

I decided that I must FACE THE CHALLENGE and do my best to secure a CTO amendment in the 2024 spring session. My family and friends are encouraging me to HANG IN THERE and FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT! I have LEFT NO STONE UNTURNED!

I can not WRAP MY HEAD AROUND why the restrictive CTO was chosen over the flexible New Brunswick CTO. It appears that the PC government has PUT THE CTO AMENDMENT ON ICE and plans to hold off the amendment for two years. Many heartbreaking situations can happen in two years! I feel that it is BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY! LOVED ONES CAN NEVER BE REPLACED!
