THE THEME TODAY IS SHOES.
New SHOES on budget day is an unusual tradition among Canadian Ministers of Finance. The tradition holds that the Minister of Finance should purchase or wear new SHOES when the budget is delivered. The exact origins of this tradition are not known.
Some people believe there is symbolism behind a dream about TORN SHOES. It is related to a situation in which you have a problem and you don’t know how to solve it. I have not had the dream but this is my situation.
Our family has been SHAKING IN OUR SHOES for over a year. We had every reason to worry, as our son was living on the streets of Toronto homeless, due to his mental illness.
I am thankful that I was TOUGH AS SHOE LEATHER to search for Andrew, bring him home, and lobby for a CTO amendment. Believe me, I was thankful for my health and resilience.
Empathy is about STANDING IN SOMEONE ELSE’S SHOES, feeling with their heart, seeing with their eyes. I believe Hon. Mark McLane has empathy for our family.
The Minister of Health and Wellness, Mark McLane, enabled our son to return home on a medical transfer and we are most grateful. Andrew is safely in hospital.
However, I am wondering why the restrictive CTO was legislated instead of the New Brunswick flexible CTO. Is the P.E.I. government on a SHOESTRING BUDGET? I believe THE SHOE WOULD BE ON THE OTHER FOOT if members of the P.E.I. government were facing our predicament.
YOU WOULD NEED TO WALK A MILE IN OUR SHOES to understand the pain during these difficult times. Many lives will be put in danger if the CTO amendment is not legislated in the spring 2024 spring session.
Our biggest concern is that our son will cease medications after discharge from hospital. This is very common. Anosognosia is a symptom of mental illness. It prevents the mentally ill from realizing they are sick. In addition, it causes many bad decisions.
In the meantime, I WILL BE WAITING FOR THE OTHER SHOE TO DROP, as it is inevitable that sooner or later something bad will happen to a mentally ill Islander because they did not qualify for a CTO.
Do you think that the PC government will do the right thing and amend the CTO? The lives of Islanders are in their capable hands!
