UPDATE FEBRUARY 13, 2024:
THE THEME TODAY IS TEACHING.
Mildred Dover was my favourite literature TEACHER in high school. It may be no surprise to you, that I successfully lobbied the P.E.I Government for a new mammogram machine for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Mildred Dover was the Minister of Health in the PC Government under Pat Binns. I presented my petition to her. I had breast cancer twice and knew that early detection was the key to survival, and that women deserved better health care on P.E.I.
EXPERIENCE IS THE BEST TEACHER. I have also learned to THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX when it comes to solving a problem, such as obtaining an amendment for the Community Treatment Order. I write daily Facebook posts using idioms to catch the attention of the PC Party and media. I am willing TO GO THE EXTRA MILE to ensure the safety of mentally ill patients on P.E.I. The blue GO THE EXTRA MILE sign is a message for the PC Party.
I believe that the PC Party needs to go BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD, as two renown CTO experts namely, Dr. Richard O’Reilly and Dr. John Gray, pointed out that the present CTO is so RESTRICTIVE that few Islanders will qualify. The Guardian stated that the CTO was FLAWED. Louise Martin, CBC Compass Host, asked Paul MacNeill, award-winning publisher what he thought of the CTO. He basically said it is so restrictive that it is USELESS and INEFFECTIVE. That pretty much says it all! Obviously, Paul did his homework on CTOs.
The P.C. Party needs to COVER ALL THE BASES on what can happen to a mentally ill person when they cease their medications due to anosognosia, and don’t qualify for a CTO. Anosognosia is a symptom of the mental illness. Patients do not realize that they are ill and as a result sometimes make some very bad decisions.
I give the PC Party “A” FOR EFFORT for introducing the first ever P.E.I. CTO. However, I don’t think the PC Party should be proud of having the WORST CTO IN CANADA!
The PC Party needs to RAISE THE BAR by amending the CTO so that many Islanders will benefit as it DOES NOT MAKE THE GRADE.
There are 1913 people who have signed Andrew’s Community Treatment Order Petition.
The New Brunswick CTO is considered THE CREAM OF THE CROP because it is very flexible and considered the Best CTO in Canada! Will the PC Party do the right thing and amend the CTO in the 2024 spring session?
A community treatment order ensures that a mentally ill person stays on their medication and provides them with a healthy life in the community. P.E.I. now has a CTO, but it is so restrictive that Andrew and many others will not qualify.
I received this post from Cheryl Wertman. "I’m a retired nurse who used to work downtown TO with street involved folks. I’ve seen many Andrew’s and feel CTOs should be much more readily accessible when persons are unable to care for themselves and are at risk of imminent health and danger."

The present CTO is like giving a battery operated truck to a child without the battery. And saying, "The truck is good enough for now, I will give you the battery to operate it after "24" months." The P.E.I. CTO is as useless as this!
In my opinion, I do not believe that the PC Party Ministers and MLAs realized the negative impact the restrictive CTO would have on Islanders, like Andrew and others. I believe in my heart they will amend the CTO in the 2024 Spring Session, because it is the RIGHT THING TO DO!
