Firstly, thank you all for signing this petition and I hope you will all share it with your friends and family.
I wanted to tell you my reasons for starting this petition.
In February this year, I started collecting outgrown, unwanted school uniforms from parents of all schools in my local area. I was also given a large amount from a school's unclaimed, unlabelled lost property. Everything was checked and washed ready for new homes.
I held a few one-day events and there was a lot of talk about the local primary school changing the uniform and how it all had to be logo'd. We were inundated with sweatshirts and fleeces from the previous uniform, although they are still allowed to use them until 2024. Families are already struggling enough without the unwarranted expense of school uniform that has to have a logo.
We had a lot of skirts, trousers, shorts and pinafore dresses and lots of PE stuff. Luckily we could take some of the weight off the expense for parents. At the end of August, we held a very successful 10-day event and we had 200+ people through the door and the conversations were mostly about the expense of the new uniform. Some parents have to pay for 2. 3 and 4 children.
There is no good reason why schools insist on a logo and in our local primary and high school, only 1 supplier. Kids look fine and identifiable in a colour, they do not need an overpriced logo too.
Someone had said in the messages about iron/sew-on transfers/badges. They would be ideal if the school felt that a colour alone wasn't good enough.
Our local school has gone silly on footwear for the primary school too, It is all shoes now, nothing that looks like a trainer or fabric material. These kids range from 4-11 yrs.
I will continue with the preloved free uniforms for as long as they're wanted. Our community is fantastic and we have so many donations.
I just need this petition to reach the sort of numbers where it will be taken seriously. Hopefully, with your help, we can do this. There is no need for schools to insist on using logo'd uniforms. It is their own policies, not the law.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
