On August 28, 2025 a first public hearing for the the Soloviev and Mohegan Sun casino application for the vacant lot at 686 First Avenue between 38th & 41st Streets was hosted by the Freedom Plaza Community Advisory Committee. 

Many non-local Union and trade groups were bussed in. They were very vocal about supporting the development with little to no regard as to what a casino would do for the quality of life here. If the local residential and business community does not speak out effectively, THEY WILL WIN. It will effectively destroy our neighborhood.
