For the attention of The Honorable Judge Camille Buras and District Attorney Jason Williams:
Firstly, to the Honorable Judge Camille Buras we appeal to you writing to vehemently ask for leniency and respectfully requestthat you do not apply the firearm enhancement in the case of Cardell Hayes, who has shown genuine remorse and compliance since the tragic events of April 9, 2016.
Cardell has demonstrated sincere remorse for his actions and has diligently complied with all stipulations since being granted bail on March 18, 2021. Since the tragic incident, he has consistently adhered to all legal requirements, cooperated fully with authorities, and taken positive steps towards rebuilding his life.
We believe that imposing a firearm enhancement in this case would not only be disproportionate but could also hinder Cardell's ability to reintegrate into society and make meaningful contributions to his community.
Considering Cardell's compliance and remorse, we are pleading that you consider a lesser sentence, a suspended sentence, or time served. Such a decision would allow Cardell to continue his journey towards making a positive contribution to society. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Secondly, to District Attorney Jason Williams we write to plead for your consideration in removing the firearm enhancement associated with the case of Cardell Hayes. While we recognize the impact the unfortunate tragedy has had on the Smith family, it has impacted Cardell and his family as well. We express our deepest condolences to the Smith family.
It is with deep concern for justice and fairness that we address this matter. Cardell Hayes has demonstrated sincere remorse for his actions and has actively engaged in efforts to better himself since the tragic incident occurred. His commitment to personal growth and responsibility is evident in his unwavering dedication to being a devoted father to his 13-year-old son and his 2-year-old daughter. Additionally, Cardell's character is marked by humility and gentleness, qualities that have been consistently observed by those who know him.
The imposition of the firearm enhancement, in this instance, would only serve to exacerbate the severity of his sentence without just cause.
We plead for you to review Cardell's case with compassion and fairness, considering his remorse and dedication to personal growth, as well as his role as a loving and supportive father. Removing the firearm enhancement would align with principles of proportionality and fairness, allowing Cardell the opportunity to rebuild his life and continue providing guidance and support to his children during this crucial time in their lives.
Your thoughtful consideration of this request is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
