Concerned Parents of SDUSD San Diego Unified School District has formally and informally requested that this matter be placed on the School Board meeting agenda for discussion and vote - but they have ignored both our formal and informal requests, until the news media contacted them. They responded by saying they would put us on the agenda, but they have not done so. We are concerned that they are stalling so the children of San Diego Unified will receive this sex ed instruction in the coming weeks despite knowing that so many parents have expressed that this instruction is not age appropriate and goes against the cultural values of this community. The next option we have as concerned parents is to protect our children and OPT OUT of the instruction. You would need to send a note or e-mail to your child's teacher or vice principal informing them of your desire to opt your child out of this curriculum. We have included a sample form for you to copy, fill out and send: I DO NOT wish my child to participate in the San Diego Unified School District's Sexual Health Education Program (SHEP). I am choosing to ‘opt-out’ my child, _________________________________(name), from participating in the (SHEP) curriculum. I understand that he/she will not be allowed to remain in the classroom while the curriculum is being taught, and that he/she will receive alternative lessons deemed appropriate by the school.
