This petition will be delivered to:
Animal Welfare Division Directer
Dr Golab
Chair ~ Dr. Steven L. Leary
The AVMA panel on euthanasia

Please re consider changes made to new draft of euthanasia guidelines.

Last year in the new draft of euthanasia guidelines the use of gas chambers was changed from acceptable to not acceptable,. Last week however we found out that in the finished publication this has changed. They will now be considered as acceptable but with conditions ~
I am fully aware that you have a difficult job here & not least because States that use Gas use your guidelines to justify that!
I also realize that in perfect conditions & used by professionals a gas chamber may be seen as humane BUT please, you must know that once this is taken away from your jurisdiction that is simply not how it is, animals are taking up to 45 mins to die horribly & the public see this as sanctioned by you.
What is the point of conditions when there is no way to check or enforce them? Doesn't this FACT enter into your deliberations? I am not blaming you for not enforcing them, I know this is not your job. But, you do know they are not enforced, you must? So as a veterinary association whose guidelines are used nation wide to determine how animals are treated, shouldn't you consider the impact of of those guidelines as well as the facts behind them?
Please take a stance for animals here we beg you, Don't let politicians hide behind your guidelines any longer. People across the US & around the world are praying you will take a stand for humanity here .. Please do what would be best for the animals .....
