Please Make CEC2 Meetings About Education!

Please Make CEC2 Meetings About Education!
The Issue
Dear Gavin Healy, Sonal Patel, Jessica Savage and Sara Schacter-Erenburg,
We, the undersigned parents, community members, and supporters of public education, are writing to respectfully urge you to cease any further attempts to repeal Resolution 248. While we do not seek to provide an opinion on the content or merits of Resolution 248 itself, we believe it is time to move forward. The ongoing debate over this issue has become counterproductive, distracting from the critical work that CEC2 should be focused on—ensuring a quality education for all students in our community.
Resolution 248 was passed, and numerous attempts to repeal it have been unsuccessful. The Department of Education has consistently stated that Resolution 248 will not be acted upon, making any continued efforts to repeal it not only unnecessary but a waste of valuable time and resources. The focus of CEC2 should be on advancing the education of our children, not on revisiting issues that have already been addressed.
We are deeply concerned that the activists advocating for the repeal have hijacked CEC2 meetings, creating a disruptive and hostile environment. Many parents who wish to speak on important education issues are being intimidated and silenced, with some even refusing to attend meetings out of fear for their personal safety. This is unacceptable. Parents should feel welcomed and heard in meetings where decisions about their children’s education are made.
We ask that CEC2 members respect the will of the community and stop the ongoing push to repeal Resolution 248. If there are individuals or groups who still wish to continue advocating on this matter, we encourage them to do so through other established avenues, such as the Panel for Education Policy or Chancellor Town Hall meetings, where broader discussions and advocacy can take place in a more appropriate and productive setting.
Our community needs a CEC2 that focuses on uniting families, educators, and stakeholders to address the real and immediate challenges in our schools. Let us move forward, put Resolution 248 behind us, and work together for the betterment of our children's education.
