Please Help Us Keep The Travs as we know it, a traditional local!! 

What’s happening?

There are currently plans to change the concept of The Travellers Rest and turn it into a Grandstand-style, sports-led pub.

This would mean taking away the homemade food offer and changing the pub into something much more similar to the other chain pubs. It would lose all its character and what makes it a proper traditional pub! 

We’re asking Marston’s to reconsider the proposed conversion of The Travellers Rest into a Grandstand-style, sports-led pub and allow the pub to continue developing as the successful, traditional community local it is today.

Why does this matter?

A lot of people who use The Travellers Rest will already know how much hard work has gone into the pub since Sarah took over.

She has put so much time, effort and heart into making the Travs a great local again - bringing back homemade food, quizzes, events and a real community feel, while making it somewhere families, friends and regulars can enjoy.

The Travellers Rest has become a place for so much more than just having a drink.

Over the last few months, it has been used for funerals, engagement parties, birthday celebrations and football presentations, as well as being a place for people to meet up, socialise and enjoy themselves.

The pub now has got its sports teams back - darts, dominoes, football and a pool team - and two quiz nights bringing people back through the doors

The pub is busy, it’s got a community around it, and people are using it for all sorts of occasions.

So the question has to be:

Why change something that isn’t broken anymore?

After all the hard work that has gone into getting The Travellers Rest back to being a proper community local, selling great home cooked food, why take away the things that are working and turn it into something that looks like every other chain pub?

Nobody is against sport, improvements or making the pub even better. The Travs already shows live sport and will continue to do so.

But The Travs has its own identity. It feels like a proper local, and that’s what people love about it.

This is about supporting Sarah and the pub she’s fought so hard to bring back to the way it’s always been - a proper, traditional local that belongs at the heart of this community. ❤️

If the Travs is your local, you’ve enjoyed a fantastic home cooked meal there, had a drink with friends, brought the family in, enjoyed one of the events - or you simply don’t want to see another local pub lose its identity - please sign the petition and share it.

Let’s show Marston’s that the local community cares about its pub and wants to keep the Travs as the Travs.
