Fix Activision-Blizzard mismanagement of Overwatch 2 + allow developers to work from home
The Issue
Overwatch 2 was released with the promise of an incredible PVE experience that would release "starting 2023". Below is a list of official Blizzard communications on the status of PvE in Overwatch 2, and one might describe them as BROKEN PROMISES.
Activision-Blizzard has hyped PvE as a main selling point for their live service game, as early as the release of Overwatch 2. "We’re also looking forward to sharing PvE with you in 2023. It’s been a continued major focus for our team, and we can’t wait to share what’s coming next." - October 4th, 2022 . Where is this major focus Blizzard is speaking of now?
This is the latest among a series of failures and broken promises by Blizzard Entertainment. Overwatch 2 players have not only been complaining about PvE being constantly delayed and stripped of what was promised. Broken matchmaking, leading to unenjoyable and unfair games in not only competitive mode, but also unranked (quickplay). Random "applying update" errors preventing players from joining games, leading to competitive bans and leaver penalties. Misleading communication about ranking up: "Q: Why am I hard stuck at a low rating that doesn’t reflect my skill? A: Ultimately, the only way you can increase your rating is to win more matches than you lose.", yet players reporting being ranked DOWN despite winning more games than they are losing, consecutively. Predatory pricing reminiscent of Diablo Immortal.
Overwatch is a well-loved franchise with a dedicated playerbase. The entire playerbase is impacted by the constant promise-breaking and misleading the development team is engaging in. Time and over has the community voiced its discontent with the direction the game has been taking, only to be met with either silence or tweets that lead to no change whatsoever.
This game has effectively been getting ruined. However, since the playerbase is steadily increasing thanks to the game becoming free-to-play, as well as the overt monetization of what some describe as overpriced skins, nothing is changing.
Ask yourself this: would you have spent money on Overwatch 2 had PvE been transparently advertised? However, developers are hardly to blame: Activision-Blizzard has been forcing developers and staff to return to the office. THIS is the real cause for Overwatch 2's PvE mode being scrapped. That, and corporate greed. (edit note: I have removed one archived tweet from someone claiming a Blizzard insider told them PvE was scrapped because of the talent hemorrhaging so as to protect their identity as per their wishes)
NOW is the time for those who enjoy and love this game to show their discontent with the game, especially in light of Microsoft's pending acquisition of Activision-Blizzard being greenlit by the European Commission. There needs to be swift, immediate change within Overwatch 2's management, because the product that is being output is simply UNACCEPTABLE. We must signal our disapproval of this company's team, whether that is management or marketing or BOTH - to its shareholders and investors- this is the ONLY way things will change.
