Petition updatePlease help save our heritage and neighbourhood character in Hampton and Sandringham!Your help required to save our heritage - Tues 18th June Council Meeting

Dear supporters,

Bayside Councillors will debate and determine the response to our petition at next Tuesday’s council meeting.

We need your support to submit a written statement to Bayside Council or ‘request to be heard’ by 9 AM Monday 17th of June.

It will make a difference if many of us write a submission to Council and express we need urgent action to fund and complete heritage studies and protection for our important heritage buildings.

The people of Hampton and Sandringham we have spoken with are most worried about the loss of the Edwardian houses that are within walking distance of the stations and shops.

It is urgent to get the Gap study funded and started. Not left for the next 10 to 15 years as is on the the 2020 Bayside Heritage Action Plan.

In your own words tell Council what you value about living in our Bayside suburbs amongst our heritage streetscapes and homes. Ask Council to include funding in the 2024-25 budget for the Gap Study of all eras so that our important Edwardian heritage buildings can be assessed and given protection as well as the Interwar Study (homes built later 1918 - 1939).

Without bringing the Gap study forward many of the homes we value in Hampton and Sandringham would be left vulnerable to demolition although some have been identified as being worthy of assessment for heritage protection by heritage consultants our rates have already paid for.

The link to request to be heard for Tuesday's Council Meeting is available here. Our petition response is agenda item 10.6.

If you would like assistance or to contact us please email: baysideheritagegroup@gmail.com

We understand the need for denser housing to accommodate our growing population but we must preserve some of our important heritage homes for future generations as well as our enjoyment of our neighbourhoods today.

If you are a resident of Bayside Municipality in Melbourne and would like to join our residents action group please email us: baysideheritagegroup@gmail.com

Thank you for your continued support.
