Hi all,
On Tuesday 18 June 24 the Councillors voted unanimously for the new Council to consider future heritage studies next March.
If you, your neighbours, friends or family living in Bayside would like to join our group please contact us via email: baysideheritagegroup@gmail.com
All skills, talents and level of involvement are welcome.
The National Trust has written to Council in support of our campaign.
The Bayside Council meeting minutes from 18 June record the following.
That Council:
1. notes the options available to undertake future heritage studies
2. undertakes a review of the heritage action plan, including recommendations for the progress of the Interwar Heritage Study and any Gap analysis
3. receives a report at the March 2025 Council Meeting.
Over the next 8 months we will continue to bring your voices to the new candidates and to lobby the elected councillors.
We don’t want a repeat of 2022, when Council voted to postpone the Bayside Heritage Action Plan. Since then significant heritage buildings have been demolished because they have no protection.
Since our petition containing almost 1,000 signatures, was presented to council in April, a further 200 have registered on this site.
Although the petition has been submitted we have been advised to keep this site active for lobbying purposes. Residents of the Municipality of Bayside Melbourne may still sign the petition to continue to let Bayside Council know how much we value our heritage and neighbourhood character.
Please ensure your correct suburb and postcode is recorded in your profile. If you find that difficult write your suburb in the comments/reasons for signing.
Thanks again for your support.
Monica and Melany.
