Please Help Save Irish Wolfhounds Atlanta, Liam and Sherri
The Issue
Atlanta, Liam and Sherri are three Irish wolfhounds that are at risk of euthanasia due to veterinary negligence resulting in atypical sedation induced aggression. The dogs are currently detained in a kennel facility for five months with limited space and a lack of veterinary and behavioural services. Their owner has been denied access to them.
Hilde Lorentzen has successfully bred and raised Irish Wolfhounds since 1976 and is considered an ethical individual who is deeply committed and dedicated to their welfare and well being. On 19th April, Hilde brought her three Wolfhounds to the vet in order to receive a vaccine booster. Her friend accompanied her with two of her Wolfhounds (also bred by Hilde) who were sedated for X-Rays, and subsequently administered a post procedural injection. Following the veterinary procedure and sedation, three of the dogs managed to escape their cage when one of the sedated dogs pushed it open during loading. A dog passing by was attacked and its owner bit in the ensuing situation.
This is completely atypical behaviour of Irish Wolfhounds and is almost certainly a consequence of the stress caused after sedation and post-anesthetic induced agitation. The owners were not informed of the unwanted and uncharacteristic aggressive behaviour that can result from sedation injections. Furthermore, the vets involved offered no help in offering post procedural care and assistance to the owners. Additionally, the subsequent decisions taken by the authorities has not factored in the above mitigating circumstances.
Hilde is currently fighting to save her dogs and has already incurred a considerable financial cost in order to keep her dogs housed in the kennel facility while legal proceedings are taking place.
