Dear Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Mr, Notis Mitarachi,

We are writing to you with an urgent request to grant Mr. Raid al-Obeed asylum in Greece. He is co-founder of the refugee self-help organization "Moria White Helmets" (MWH), which was launched in March 2020. MWH, under Mr. Al-Obeeds have since helped in countless projects to keep the old and new refugee camp on Lesvos clean and safe. MWH under the leadership of Mr. Al-Obeed started off by facilitating a larger covid-related campaign both online, in media and through physical mobilization of Arabs. 

The self-organization encouraged fellow asylum seekers to comply and implement the advice of WHO. The campaign also included Covid-related restrictions from the Camp Management and the Greek Government. Mr. Al-Obeed did an impressive job of communicating these messages, and the situation as a whole within the Arab-speaking communities, in cooperation with Afghan initiatives as a joint effort on behalf of the camp. MWH would elaborate and explain the importance of such measures, by making himself and his team MWH role models of a coordinated Covid-respons. This made other persons in the camp feel more at ease following the implemented measures, such as keeping a distance, abiding to the lockdown and wearing a mask.

Moreover, since April 2020, MWH has regularly cleaned the area inside and around the old and the new camp, in cooperation with the waste disposal of Mytillini. After the devastating fire in September 2020, the Moria White Helmets helped evacuate the refugees to the new camp and then cleaned up the area around the old camp that burned down. Since November 2021, the MWH have assisted the Camp Management of the new refugee camp on Lesvos in taking care of the electricity supply for the camp as a whole.  

MWH leader, Raid al-Obeed, suffered severe persecution in Syria and had to flee from the henchmen of the Assad regime. In Turkey, too, he was not certain that he would be deported or attacked by Syrian agents. That's why he fled to Greece in 2019. Despite this, the competent Greek authorities have rejected his application. On April 4, the appeals process will take place and Mr Al-Obeed fears he will be rejected again.

The Moria White Helmets have not only shown in the last two years that they voluntarily help to keep the refugee camp clean every day, these activities cause the regime in Damascus displeasure because, as the name suggests, the Moria White Helmets consciously refer to the activities of the opposition civil protection organization in Syria. This increases the risk of a possible deportation of Mr. Al-Obeed.

Therefore, we sincerely ask you to comply with the asylum seeker from Raid al-Obeed and enable him to stay safely in Greece.

Sehr geehrter Herr Kyriakos Mitsotakis, sehr geehrter Herr Notis Mitarachi,

wir wenden uns an Sie mit der dringenden Bitte Herrn Raid al-Obeed Asyl in Griechenland zu gewähren. Er ist Mitbegründer der Flüchtlingsselbsthilfeorganisation „Moria White Helmets“ (MWH), die im März 2020 ins Leben gerufen wurde und seitdem in unzähligen Projekten geholfen hat, das alte und neue Flüchtlingslager auf Lesbos sauber zu halten, sich um die Elektrizitätsversorgung  kümmert und in Zusammenarbeit mit der Müllentsorgung von Mytillini auch die Umgebung des Camps regelmäßig säubert.

MWH unter Leitung von Herrn Al-Obeed, hat außerdem mitgeholfen im März 2020 eine Aufklärungskampagne gegen Covid-19 im Camp zu initiieren, indem die Gruppe andere Asylsuchende in Moria ermutigte, die Vorgaben der Weltgesundheitsorganisation WHO soweit möglich im Camp umzusetzen. Außerdem setzte sie sich dafür ein, dass entsprechende Vorgaben des Camp-Managements und der griechischen Regierung umgesetzt wurden. Herr Al-Obeed und die „Moria White Helmets“ haben unermüdlich daran gearbeitet, diese Botschaften an die Bewohnerinnen und Bewohner des Camps zu vermitteln. Dabei konnten sie sowohl arabischsprachige als auch afghanische Flüchtlinge erreichen. Sie haben maßgeblich mitgeholfen, dass es damals im Camp nicht zu schweren Ausbrüchen den Pandemie kam.

Nach dem verheerenden Brand im September 2020 haben die „Moria White Helmets“ bei der Evakuierung der Flüchtlinge in das neue Camp geholfen und danach das Gebiet um das alte, abgebrannte Lager aufgeräumt.

Ihr Leiter Raid al-Obeed erlitt in Syrien schwere Verfolgung und musste vor den Schergen des Assad Regimes fliehen. Auch in der Türkei war er nicht vor Rückschiebung oder Zugriff durch syrische Agenten sicher. Deshalb floh er 2019 nach Griechenland.

Trotzdem haben die zuständigen griechischen Behörden seinen Antrag abgelehnt. Am 4. April findet das Berufungsverfahren statt und Herr Al-Obeed fürchtet, dass er erneut abgelehnt wird.

Dabei haben die „Moria White Helmets“ nicht nur in den letzten zwei Jahren gezeigt, dass sie freiwillig jeden Tag mithelfen, das Flüchtlingslager sauber zu halten, diese Aktivitäten sorgen beim Regime in Damaskus für Missfallen, da, wie der Name sagt, die "Moria White Helmets" sich bewusst auf die Aktivitäten der gleichnamigen oppositionellen Zivilschutzorganisation in Syrien beziehen.

Damit steigt auch die Gefährdung bei einer möglichen Abschiebung von Herrn Al-Obeed.

Deshalb bitten wir Sie herzlich, dem Asylansinnen von Raid al-Obeed nachzukommen und ihm einen sicheren Aufenthalt in Griechenland zu ermöglichen.

Wir sind sicher, dass seine Lebenserfahrung, seine Verbindlichkeit sowie seine professionellen Fähigkeiten der Bevölkerung und Gemeinschaft auch weiterhin von großem Nutzen sein werden.

Παρακαλείται να δωθεί άσυλο στον Raid Al-Obeed των Λευκών Κρανίων της Μοριας (MWH).

Αξιότιμε κύριε,

Σας γράφουμε με ένα επείγον αίτημα που αφορά την χορήγηση ασύλου στον κ.Raid Al-Obeed στην Ελλάδα. Είναι συνιδρυτής της οργάνωσης αυτοβοήθειας προσφύγων "Moria White Helmets" (MWH), η οποία ξεκίνησε τον Μάρτιο του 2020. Η MWH, υπό τον κ. Al-Obeeds, βοήθησε έκτοτε σε αμέτρητα έργα για τη διατήρηση του παλιού και νέου προσφυγικού καταυλισμού στη Λέσβο να παραμείνει εκτός των άλλων, καθαρό και ασφαλές. Το MWH υπό την ηγεσία του κ. Al-Obeed ξεκίνησε με τη διευκόλυνση μιας μεγαλύτερης εκστρατείας σχετικά με τον Covid19 τόσο στο διαδίκτυο, στα μέσα ενημέρωσης όσο και μέσω της φυσικής κινητοποίησης των Αράβων. Η αυτοοργάνωση ενθάρρυνε τους συναδέλφους αιτούντες άσυλο να συμμορφωθούν και να εφαρμόσουν τις συμβουλές του ΠΟΥ. Η εκστρατεία περιλαμβάνει  επίσης περιορισμούς που σχετίζονται με τον Covid19 από τη Διοίκηση του Camp και την Ελληνική Κυβέρνηση. Ο κ. Al-Obeed έκανε μια σπουδαία δουλειά για την απόδοση αυτών των μηνυμάτων και της γενικότερης κατάστασης, ως προς το σύνολό της στις αραβόφωνες κοινότητες, σε συνεργασία με τις αφγανικές πρωτοβουλίες ως κοινή προσπάθεια εκ μέρους του στρατοπέδου. Ο MWH θα επεξεργαστεί και θα εξηγήσει  τη σημασία τέτοιων μέτρων, καθιστώντας την οργάνωση  και την ομάδα του MWH πρότυπα μιας συντονισμένης αντίδρασης στον Covid19. Αυτό είχε ως αποτελέσματα να κάνει τα άτομα στον καταυλισμό να αισθάνονται πιο άνετα ακολουθώντας τα μέτρα που πρέπει να εφαρμόζονται, όπως η τήρηση αποστάσεων, η τήρηση της καραντίνας και η χρήση μάσκας.

Επιπλέον, από τον Απρίλιο του 2020, η MWH καθαρίζει τακτικά τον χώρο εντός και γύρω από τον παλιό και τον νέο καταυλισμό, σε συνεργασία με την αποκομιδή απορριμμάτων της Μυτιλήνης. Μετά την καταστροφική πυρκαγιά τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2020, τα ‘Λευκά Κράνη της Μόριας’ βοήθησαν στην απομάκρυνση των προσφύγων στον νέο καταυλισμό και στη συνέχεια καθάρισαν την περιοχή γύρω από τον παλιό καταυλισμό που είχε καεί.

Από τον Νοέμβριο του 2021, το MWH είχε βοηθήσει  τη Διοίκηση του Στρατοπέδου στο νέο προσφυγικό  καταυλισμού στη Λέσβο να παρέχει σε όλο το σύνολο του την ηλεκτροδότηση του  καταυλισμού.

Ο αρχηγός του MWH, Raid al-Obeed, υπέστη σοβαρές διώξεις στη Συρία και έπρεπε να φύγει υπό το καθεστώς Άσαντ.  Επίσης, στην Τουρκία υπήρχε κίνδυνος ότι θα απελαθεί ή θα του επιτεθούν Σύροι πράκτορες. Γι' αυτό διέφυγε στην Ελλάδα το 2019. Ωστόσο , οι αρμόδιες ελληνικές αρχές απέρριψαν την αίτησή του. Στις 4 Απριλίου, θα διεξαχθεί η διαδικασία προσφυγών και ο κ. Al-Obeed ανησυχεί και φοβάται πως θα απορριφθεί ξανά.

Τα Λευκά Κράνη της Μόριας έδειξαν τα τελευταία δύο χρόνια ότι βοηθούν εθελοντικά  να διατηρηθεί καθαρός ο προσφυγικός καταυλισμός. Αυτες οι δραστηριότητες προκαλούν δυσαρέσκεια στο καθεστώς στη Δαμασκό, διότι όπως υποδηλώνει το όνομα, τα Λευκά Κράνη της Μόριας αναφέρονται συνειδητά στις δραστηριότητες της αντιπολιτευόμενης οργάνωσης της πολιτικής προστασίας στη Συρία. Αυτό αυξάνει τον κίνδυνο πιθανής απέλασης του κ. Al-Obeed.

Επομένως, σας ζητάμε ειλικρινά να κατανοήσετε  τον αιτούντα ασύλου Raid al-Obeed και να του επιτρέψετε να μείνει με ασφάλεια στην Ελλάδα.
