Please Fix/Reopen Sulphur Springs Pool - Our Community Needs It!
The Issue
The Sulphur Springs pool has been a landmark and staple of the Sulphur Springs/Seminole Heights neighborhood for 24 years now. It was the 3rd highest attended out of the dozen city pools, last year……yet it’s been shuttered and no one knows its exact future. This is a beloved city resource and we hope to see it reopened again. We believe this area deserves a pool, so we are asking that it remains in the Sulphur Springs area. And if needing to be rebuilt, we ask that the city move quickly to remedy this.
We, the community, are calling on City Council/Mayor Jane Castor to set aside the funding to take immediate action to reopen Sulphur Springs pool. This beloved community pool is more than just a place to swim; it is a vital resource for health, wellness, and community bonding.
Recently, Sulphur Springs pool was closed indefinitely, leaving our community without a crucial recreational and wellness resource. This petition aims to highlight the importance of this pool and urge local authorities to fix/reopen it as soon as possible.
**Community Impact:**
The closure affects everyone in our community, from children who learn to swim and play, to seniors who rely on the pool for low-impact exercise. Swim teams have lost their training grounds, and families have lost a safe, local spot for summertime fun.
**Health and Wellness:**
Swimming is one of the best exercises for physical health and mental well-being. Without access to the pool, many community members lose a critical way to stay active and healthy.
**Community Events:**
Sulphur Springs pool has been the site of numerous community events, including swim meets, summer camps, and social gatherings. These events foster community spirit and provide a sense of belonging.
**Economic Impact:**
Local businesses benefit from the traffic generated by pool visitors. The closure of the pool negatively impacts these businesses, leading to a broader economic downturn in our area.
**Testimonials :**

- "As a senior, I use the pool for aquatic exercise, which is essential for my health. The closure has taken away my primary form of exercise." – Concerned Resident
**Action Requested:**
We request that local authorities prioritize the inspection, repair, and reopening of Sulphur Springs pool This includes allocating necessary funds and resources to ensure the pool meets all safety and health standards.
