Since Feb. 13th 2023, the stone-made warehouse in Utsunomiya University is being taken down (but he operation is only done inside and the building itself won't be taken down in a few weeks; therefore, we still have some time left)!!

However, this will not only take away the beautiful view and the place of so many people’s memories, but it will also cause several huge issues.

① Historical issues: The building was built during the Taisho-period, which is about 100 years ago, and has a long history academically as well. 

② It's a Japan Heritage!: The buildings that are made by Oya stones in Utsunomiya City are designated as Japan Heritage, and this building is no exception. Taking this building down will be like losing a treasure.

③ Cultural issues: A lot of music videos (such as for idols like AKB48) or movies/tv series (such as “Murder Standard Score 70”) were shot in the building, which make the building more significant for the culture today. It is very much loved by the local community as well.

④ Environmental issues: taking down the building is going to 1) cause emission of carbon dioxide, and 2) be a waste of valuable resources. 

⑤ Insufficient disclosure of information: When there used to be a project of opening a cafe using the building, the plan was somehow changed into tearing the whole architecture down with only few people knowing about it, leaving some people who raised the fund being left out from the decision-making process. There are many people who still don’t know about the change!!

I myself have grown up in Utsunomiya, and I love the building so much… So I really am hoping that somehow we can save the building. 

And I believe there is a possibility of making it come true if we spread this action.
