Speedy R.I.P. - an update

Yesterday it was our sad duty to inform you of Speedy's untimely death. Speedy was one of 4 Heavy Horses that lived on Chawton House's (CHL) estate under the care of the charity's trustees. He was a beautiful Clydesdale who had just turned 15. Along with his stablemates he was given away by the charity along with his tack late last year reportedly to cut costs. Today we were informed that Speedy's new owner advised CHL of his death last week. CHL made no announcement about this tragic development which is surprising given that many of the charity's financial supporters had previously sponsored Speedy and would have liked to know what had occurred. CHL's reticence stands in stark contrast to their eagerness to use Speedy as a PR 'spokeshorse' a few months ago to promote the success of their 're-homing' action https://chawtonhouse.org/2017/09/update-one-horses-speedy/ Callously, CHL made no attempt to inform their former stables staff, who had cared for Speedy over many years that he had died. One of them still lives on the estate. No information has been disclosed about the cause of Speedy's death. Until the stables was closed there had been a tradition that the ashes of any Heavy Horse that died would be scattered on the estate. We have no information from the charity whether they intend to honour this tradition. In a curious coincidence CHL finally deleted its Facebook page dedicated to Chawton House Shire Horses last week rather than use it as a platform to inform followers of Speedy's death. CHL's charity and Board of Trustees seem intent on treating Speedy's death in the same clandestine way that they dealt with their original decision to evict the Heavy Horses.
