Save our Shires (SOS)
Feb 11, 2018
11 FEB 2018 — Today we learned that Speedy, one of the most cherished of the four Heavy Horses evicted from their home on Chawton Estate when the charity's trustees decided to close their stables and give the horses away, sadly died on February 4th. Speedy was a 14 year old Clydesdale and had a clean bill of health from his vet before being removed from his home. He was popular with the stable's visitors being a very docile, friendly creature. He was particularly valued by the elderly, infirm and children for his therapeutic qualities. Angie McLaren, Speedy's former head horsewoman has yet to receive direct notification of his passing and we remain unaware of the cause of his death. The trauma and disruption of being removed from his home of many years just a few short months ago may well have been a contributing factor to his demise. He will be greatly missed by his many former sponsors, friends and admirers.
