If you could please read this and think of how different you are after just 10 yrs or 15 let alone 45. If you could just talk to him for a bit you would know!

I am writing this to tell you about my best friend!!

Roy is eligible for parole in July of this year. He has served 45 years. Been in since he was 18 yrs old. 
Our hearts breaks for the families that hurt. We are in no way trying to diminish what they have lost or the pain they endure. Roy owns his actions and the affect they have had on others. He lives with the shame and regret daily. And will for the rest of his life.
Roy has been a model inmate for 30 years. Roy has been called extremely respectful and kind by numerous COs, and People For Change, and inmates. He has completed every program available to him. He completed victim awareness, anger management, thinking for a change, Kairos, people for change, rational emocive therapy, commitment to change, no man is a island, money smart, Blackstone career institute paralegal study and more. He has also, studied Law and Philosophy with very high grades while incarcerated. He has kept the same job for 6 yrs as a porter. And has been trusted to paint unsupervised in the offices. He is trusted. 
Roy has served 30 years of his life sentence in a maximum security prison, 13 yrs in super max, and 2 yrs at level 3; where he has been a model inmate for the last 30. He has chosen to live in a considerate and peaceful manner with humility and kindness. This choice is different from the choices that landed him there. But he has worked really hard to become a better person.
Think Back. Are you the same person you were at 18, 25, or even 30? We all grow and change into our lives. Everyday we learn new things or new ways to live life. We learn from choices we make good and bad.  The shame he carries with him for the things he did will always remain.
I'm not the same person I was and Roy isn't either.
Roy has family that love him. 4 daughters, who have adopted him, 3 grandkids, and me. A sister, aunts and cousins. Blood family and heart family. We want him home. We need him home.
Please help the parole board see Roy has a strong support system, he has a family, a home, a job, a vehicle, a church, and a bunch of friends from childhood. Help them see that he can be a productive and valued member of society, and that showing mercy and granting Roy another chance at life is the right decision.
