In the Great Neck Meadows neighborhood, strong relationships, friendships, and a shared sense of community have always been an important part of childhood. However, the current school zoning for Country Mill Rd separates the children living on this street from the rest of the neighborhood they are part of.

Great Neck Meadows is zoned for Trantwood Elementary, Lynnhaven Middle School, and Cox High School. Country Mill Rd, however, sits on the zoning divide and is currently assigned to Alanton Elementary, Lynnhaven Middle School, and First Colonial High School. As a result, children living on Country Mill Rd may grow up alongside their Great Neck Meadows neighbors but are ultimately separated from many of those friendships and community connections during their school years.

This petition is specifically requesting the redistricting of the 20 single-family homes on Country Mill Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23454, so that these homes are zoned consistently with the rest of the Great Neck Meadows neighborhood.

Our request is simple: that the VBCPS School Board consider the natural neighborhood boundary and allow the children of Country Mill Rd to attend the same schools as the Great Neck Meadows community in which they live.

Maintaining neighborhood continuity gives children the opportunity to continue their education alongside the friends, families, and community relationships they have grown up with. It also helps strengthen the connection between neighborhood life and school life.

We respectfully ask the Virginia Beach City Public Schools School Board to redistrict the single-family homes on Country Mill Rd from Alanton Elementary / Lynnhaven Middle / First Colonial High School to Trantwood Elementary / Lynnhaven Middle / Cox High School, aligning Country Mill Rd with the remainder of Great Neck Meadows.

This petition is intended specifically for residents of Country Mill Rd and members of the Great Neck Meadows neighborhood who support this requested zoning change.
